Help Families Affected by COVID-19 in Sri Lanka
Donation protected
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought severe hardships to many families around the world. However, as many of you already know, this hardship is comparatively greater in developing countries like Sri Lanka. We have been under an indefinite island-wide lockdown since the 20th of March. This does not just mean social distancing – many essential services have been closed down, such as public transport, supermarkets, as well as restaurants and hotels. The transport of cargo and goods have been limited. Everyone has been ordered to stay at home and due to the curfews, that are in place because of the lockdown, a majority of citizens have now been put out of work, as they depended on their daily income. Fishermen, taxi drivers, plumbers, and so many other workers are now at a point where they cannot feed their families because they have not been able to work for 3 weeks now and counting. The homeless are left on the streets to starve. There is no aid or food being given to them on a daily basis by local authorities. It is not only humans that suffer, but so many innocent stray dogs and cats have no food or water to drink as well. It's breaking our hearts that our county will soon face our second biggest threat: hunger. Therefore, we need your help!

Members of Parliament of Sri Lanka, Sujith Sanjaya Perera and Dr. Kavinda Jayawardena have teamed up, along with their family members and local supporters, with the hopes of continuing their efforts to stop the hunger in their respective districts – Kegalle and Gampaha – by providing starving families and their children, stray animals and the homeless with food and other daily essentials (dry rations) to communities that have been critically affected by this unprecedented crisis. We will be offering essentials worth of $6-$12 USD (Rs. 1200-2400 approx.) on each household depending on its size.

What Have We Already Done To Help (and continue to help)?
· We have supplied dry rations and vegetables close to 2000 families in the Gampaha and Kegalle Districts.
· We have been feeding stray dogs and cats ensuring they're not in hunger.
· We have been feeding the homeless in Ja Ela (Gampaha District) with rice packets every day for about a week now and we are hoping to continue this effort.
Why We Need Your Donation?
· To continue providing dry rations and vegetable to low-income families
· To continuing feeding the homeless so they aren’t left to starve
· To ensure that the stray animals in our communities are fed and not forgotten

Note: Before the lockdown, the homeless and stray dogs were fed by townspeople and restaurant workers. Now that curfews are in place, there is no one out in the public to assist in any way.

The brutal reality is that we're constantly receiving calls from people crying and begging us to help feed them and their children. We're doing everything that we can to help our community. At this point, we are using our personal funds to do this, along with our friends and family who are able to do so as well. We hope that you can find it in your hearts to help the people of Sri Lanka by donating. Every donation, as low as $5, can make a difference during this difficult time.
Please share this fundraiser with everyone you know! If you cannot make a donation, but would still like to help, please share this fundraiser to your personal social media pages to help us spread the word.
Your kindness and generosity are GREATLY APPRECIATED. At this time, we don’t have anything we can give back but we will give you continuous updates on our Facebook as well as here on the GoFundMe page with how we donate.
Thank you,
Sujith Sanjaya Perera and Dr. Kavinda Jayawardena, MPs of Sri Lanka
