As you my friends and family are aware, I have suffered with epilepsy since the age of 5. I have three types of seizures; Absence, Myoclonic, and Tonic Clonic. On average, my last EEG at Emory showed over 75 partial seizures a day.
I am blessed to have a mom and sister who have sacrificed so much of their time and energy to care for me. Every strange noise, day or night, means they jump up and run for fear that I may be having a seizure and they will find me on the floor. They have had countless sleepless nights, sleeping with one eye open listening to the monitor in case I have a seizure in the middle of the night. They have spent numerous days/nights curled up sleeping in hospital room chairs. Thank you for all you have done for me for the past 15 years.
Now, at 20 years old, I have applied for a service dog that specializes in caring for epileptic individuals. I am ‘thrilled’ to say that I have been approved. This has been a lifelong dream of mine. Now, in the near future, this dog will enable me to go to the bathroom alone and actually lock the door. I will be able to stay home alone. I will be able to sleep without a baby monitor. Most importantly, I can plan a future of living independently. My mom has managed to cover all of my medical expenses up until this point. However, the cost and care of the service dog is quite significant.
I am currently a full-time student attending beauty school. My goal is to someday gain full-time employment and earn a sufficient income to care for myself. As difficult as it is to ask, I know initially I won’t have the income necessary to purchase and care for the service animal. Therefore, I am humbly asking for any financial assistance you can offer. The purchase price of the dog is $27,000.
I am attaching a picture of the two dogs under consideration to be a match for me. They are both
Golden Retrievers (Eve and Bones) and have been selected as the best candidates for my condition.
Thank you for your love, support and consideration.
