Hi, my name is Faith Nyberg. I am 22 years old and currently attending Winthrop to get my Bachelor's in Music Education. My musical journey has been long but so amazing, I’m originally a pianist then played violin and cello for 4 years. Finally, I found my true passion by moving to band and becoming a percussionist my junior year of high school. This was one of the greatest decisions I could have made that led me to where I am today. I have greatly enjoyed all of the new people I have met through school and learned countless lessons in my hopes to becoming a Music Teacher.

Right before the Pandemic, I was given the great opportunity of marching with an independent percussion group called Civitas Independent. The Front Ensemble Caption Head and soon to be college peer and great inspiration asked me if I wanted to march in this ensemble. The height of Covid cut my time short but from my short time there, I grew another family. Once I began College (during the pandemic!) I focused on school but decided to come back to Civitas again last year. I didn’t know if I would get another opportunity to march again so I took it. The focus on educating young people to become better musicians spoke so loudly. I learned so much both as a performer and as a future educator.

If you did not know this year is my age out for marching an indoor percussion group, meaning this will be my last opportunity to play in a competitive group like this. Civitas Independent has become my home for the past 3 years. Here are some of the kindest people and amazing instructors I’ve had to joy to know, but amazing experiences come at a great cost.

I am in my senior year at Winthrop (with one more year to go) and I just recently moved into an apartment with my wonderful partner Caleb. Who if you didn’t know, is also a percussionist and has marched every season of Civitas with me. He also goes to Winthrop and shares my great love for music and education. I’ve maintained 2 jobs throughout college as a Jewelry assistant for a local small business, working for a church live-streaming, working sound, and music licensing which have been wonderful experiences. Living on my own and attending college although rewarding has been very finically demanding.

This being my ageout, and my last season to march with this organization I would love your help. Organizations like these allow me to grow as a musician and human to better teach future musicians and give them the amazing outlet and passion for music that I had from my time in school.
