Help Faith Ferguson Embrace Her Heritage
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Faith Ferguson and I have been given the opportunity to step into a last minute cancellation spot for a life changing trip to the east coast. The HBCU (Historically Black College and Universities) Tour is a unique experience that provides students with the opportunity to explore historically black colleges and universities. We will also be visiting historic cultural museums and monuments. I will learn about my African American culture, history and future education options.
This trip is important for me on so many levels. I live in a very white community. There, I said it. Ventura is 2.5% black. I am reminded all too often that I look different and I have been called various racial slurs for most of my school life. I have struggled with my body image, my thick thighs and muscular build. Being around black people and embracing those who look like me will be good for my heart and soul.
I have two days to raise money that participants have had months to plan for. The event is from April 12-19. I know it's a lot to ask, I don't have cancer, I didn't lose my house in a fire, I'm just a kid who wants to embrace my heritage and learn to love and accept myself. My mom doesn't have the money because this trip came out of no where. My teacher heard about the last minute cancellation and recommended me. I'm excited, but also nervous. It's my first big trip without at least one of my parents. We accepted this invitation on a whim of faith. Will you help me make this happen?
