Help Fairy's Fight to be Pain Free Before the End

My name is Rory Good aka. Meteor and I’m part of a group of friends who are fundraising for our wonderful & kind friend Mercedes Oyman aka. Fairy. This page was made to support Fairy in her ongoing battle with her terminal disease (neurosyphilis) and ensure that she can live pain free for as long as possible before she passes on. Here is her story….
Back in June 2018, at the age of 28, Fairy began to experience symptoms of headaches and nausea, which she thought was simply down to the stress of too much work in the horse stables and taking care of her daughter with special needs. She made an appointment with her doctor, who didn’t conduct any type of examination or test and believed she just needed to rest to recover.
A week later, Fairy had a seizure which meant she had to visit the hospital where, once again, they claimed it was down to stress and sent her back home the same day without testing her. The doctors thought it might be a psychological reaction, so Fairy was referred to a psychiatrist who swiftly cleared her of any psychological illness and referred her back to the doctors, who did not get back to Fairy to follow up with diagnosing her symptoms.
Shortly after, Fairy’s weight began to fluctuate drastically, but once again the doctors thought this was psychological and wanted her looked at for an eating disorder. This was incorrect and Fairy was still left without any explanation for her ongoing symptoms. As more weeks went by, her symptoms began to worsen, starting to lose her coordination and falling over frequently, along with severe back pains and a loss of bladder control, one time which left her practically motionless on the floor in her home being unable to move. From then onwards, Fairy had to use a wheelchair from a loan depot to get around.
A week later, Fairy’s foster mother was tragically diagnosed with cancer and died not long after. Her foster father then stopped helping take care of Fairy, which made her life all the more sad and difficult.
At this point, and still without a diagnosis, Fairy was sent to undertake physiotherapy, which she had to go through at least four times before she would be referred to a back specialist centre. Instead, this only caused the pain in her back and the rest of her body to get worse, plus after going through the physiotherapy treatment her doctor forgot to refer her to the back specialist and she had to wait a further 3 months before she could be seen by them. The daily pain was now proving to be unbearable for Fairy, so she had to be put into a medically induced coma on her way to the hospital, where they finally got around to testing her properly.
The results showed that her brain, liver, spinal cord, spinal fluid nerves and ovaries were full of infection and that she was dying. After waking up from her induced coma, Fairy’s brain had also regressed to the state of a child’s and she was finally diagnosed with neurosyphilis, an infection she would have had since she was born. This could have been cured earlier on with a simple penicillin jab, however the doctors had taken too long and the symptoms were now irreversible. Fairy would have to suffer for the rest of her life due to her doctor not conducting a simple blood test at the start….
Since then, Fairy’s body has been gradually shutting down but she continues to fight every day with a smile on her face. She only gets to see her own daughter very rarely due to her condition in case she catches an infection as her immune system is so weak, plus her daughter is autistic and finds it upsetting to be around Fairy. Despite it being this difficult for her to get around, she plays games online to meet and interact with new people, she’s kind and sweet with everyone and she especially loves the colour pink!
Sadly Fairy had two heart attacks as recently as Sunday 13th August and we do not know how much time Fairy has. Those of us who have gotten to know Fairy in recent times just want to help her have as happy a life as she can with the time she has left and for it to be as pain-free as possible. Our community makes sure to talk with her every day plus even going as far as making her toy dolls which represent her character she plays online. We are looking to raise 160,000 DKK which will help cover her medication called Morphine-Atropine-Papaverine (MAP) which so far has proven to be the only medication that helps to remove the pain for Fairy, additional nursing costs towards nursing care for Fairy which she needs daily plus any extra to support Fairy’s daughter, who is now 13, for the future.
Any contribution, no matter how great or small, will be incredibly helpful for her quality of life moving forwards.
Love,
Rory
