One of my best friends Faery has spent much of her life being the person everyone else could count on. She is a kind-hearted, compassionate human being and a former nurse who has always gone above and beyond for the people she loves. When my son and myself were hospitalized she spent her nights by our side.
Throughout the years she has cared for her family, supported her loved ones, and put others before herself countless times. Showing up sparkly and ready to give it her all. Even in the heaviest of moments.
Over the last month however, Faery has experienced the heartbreaking loss of both of her parents, each after their own medical struggles. Losing one parent to a long time battle with cancer is devastating both emotionally and financially; the unexpected passing of her father within a month apart came as an even bigger shock. Losing both within such a short period of time has completely shaken her world as well as her sons.
While grieving these unimaginable losses, Faery is also navigating her own ongoing chronic debilitating medical challenges and is unable to work, thus living with limited resources.
She is a single mother to her son, Wynnie, who is getting ready to start preschool. Her biggest priority through all of this has been creating some sense of stability and security for him while trying to keep moving forward herself.
Unfortunately, the combination of losing 3/4’s of her household income, medical expenses, the costs of raising a young child, household expenses, and the financial impact of losing her parents has left Faery facing a substantial financial burden at a time when she is already emotionally and physically exhausted.
Faery isn't someone who is comfortable asking for help. In fact, she has expressed how difficult it is for her to put her story out there or feel like the center of attention. She knows everyone is struggling.
So my ask is the hope to raise funds to help Faery with basic living expenses, household costs, medical-related expenses, her son's needs, and the financial burdens that have come with the sudden loss of both of her parents.
The past few years has left a number of major home repairs (plumbing, drainage, water damage etc) neglected as her focus and priority was caring for her family. The need to take care of these repairs is becoming more pressing and urgent.
Most importantly, whatever funds are raised will allow her a little breathing room so she can focus on healing, grieving, and being there for Wynnie without constantly worrying about how she is going to make everything work financially.
If you know Faery, you know how deeply she cares for others. She has spent years showing up for the people she loves. Now I am asking if we can show up for her.
Any donation, no matter the amount, would mean so much. And if donating isn't possible, simply sharing this fundraiser can help us reach someone who is able to help.
Thank you for reading Faery's story, for keeping her and her little in your thoughts, and for helping remind her that she doesn't have to carry all of this alone. She would much rather be the person helping someone else. But sometimes even the strongest people need someone to help carry the weight.
