Help Ezra get a Seizure Alert Dog ❤️
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
As many of you know, my sweet Ezra Kai was born with hydrocephalus. At 2 days old, Ezra underwent his first brain surgery, an endoscopic septostomy. Unfortunately , that procedure didn’t work, and at 3 months old, he had a VP shunt placed to help drain the fluid.
About a year ago, we were hit with another devastating diagnosis: focal epilepsy. Ezra’s first known seizure was on May 19, 2024, and what began as occasional episodes has now become more frequent. We’ve learned firsthand that seizures don’t all look the same. Some we can predict, others come without warning. His shortest seizure lasted 10 seconds, and the longest a terrifying 26 minutes and 40 seconds.
Recently, Ezra had his second EEG, and the results showed that the focal discharge has now spread to the other side of his brain—increasing the risk of more seizures. Despite being on two different anti-seizure medications, the seizures are still happening.
We’ve started the process of getting Ezra a seizure alert dog. This incredible dog will be trained to sense Ezra’s seizures before they happen—anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour in advance—giving us time to act quickly and ensure Ezra is in a safe position. This dog will not only help protect him physically but also give us greater peace of mind.
These service dogs undergo rigorous training and health testing, and because of the time, care, and expertise that go into preparing them, they are understandably very expensive.
We are reaching out to our family, friends, and community for help—whether that be a donation, a share, a prayer, or just words of encouragement. Every little bit helps, and we are truly grateful for anything you can give.
Ezra has a way of capturing every heart he meets. To know him is to love him. Please continue to pray for complete healing for our precious boy. Thank you for being a part of Ezra’s journey. ❤️
With love and gratitude,
Ezra and Bethany
