Hello, my name is Ezell Bryant, and I recently moved to Selma, Alabama from Phoenix, Arizona due to a 29-year-long wait to be reunited with my biological father.
I was blessed to find my father through an Ancestry DNA search in 2023, which gave me joy and hope for a reunion that I’ve been longing for. After two years of us communicating through the phone and via text messages, I decided to move from Phoenix, AZ to Selma, AL to be with my dad so we could establish a father-son relationship. The last time my father saw me was when I was 2 years old in Long Beach, California with my mother. All I ever wanted was a connection and bond with my father, no matter how much time has passed in our lives.
My first month meeting my dad was amazing and exciting, but things began to take a turn. Being in the South for the first time, my father began mistreating me and being abusive in ways that have impacted my mental health and physicality. On November 29th, 2024, my father came home under the influence. Unfortunately, he battles with addiction and mental health issues that resulted in him abusing me with a cane and pistol, which has left me ultimately traumatized.
Since November 29th, 2024, I have not been back to my father's home. This incident has caused me to file a police report, and it has also caused me to be homeless, stranded, broken-hearted, and suffering from severe PTSD. Being in the same place as him ultimately has me paranoid and uneasy.
The reason I created this GoFundMe was so I could get back home, pay off hospital bills, and attend therapy sessions, which are definitely needed after this situation occurred. I am calling on the community to help me get back home safely. I don’t feel safe in the same city and state with my father because I do not trust him not to retaliate due to me going to the Selma, Alabama police department and filing a report about the incident.
The incident left me with a busted forehead, three staples in my pinky finger, and swollen ribs. This is why I choose to call on the community to help me get home safely, off the streets, and out of the cold winter weather.
Thank you in advance for reading my story. I couldn’t sustain staying quiet any longer. The impact of being homeless and stranded has really affected me and my mental health. I will not be conditioned to accept this abuse or any form of it, even if it’s from my biological father… No one deserves this.
My father has never been in my life since day one of me being born, and to be handled this way has been in complete disbelief and distress. I pray in due time I heal successfully from this horrible experience and acts of verbal, physical, and emotional abuse. Please get me home safely.
Thank you, much blessings and peace.
