Hi all,
Last week, Stefano, Gianluca, and I received the devastating news that Sammy has high-grade lymphoma, a form of incurable cancer in dogs. With chemotherapy, a dog can live an average of 1 year and up to 2 years or more. Without treatment, the survival time is 1-2 months. If you've met Sammy, you know how much he loves people, food, playing, other dogs, and adventures. Assuming you know our family, you know how important our animals are to us. Though we can't cure Sammy, we are prioritizing his treatment to give us all as much time together and Sammy the highest quality of life possible.
Fortunately, dogs tolerate chemo much better than humans. A day or two after his first treatment in conjunction with steroids, he showed increased energy and appetite, is breathing more comfortably, and is much less itchy (apparently part of the cancer).
Though we have some funds for care, the estimated $15,000 for the full chemo protocol is beyond our means. We are seeking to complete as much of the treatment protocol as possible to increase his opportunity for a longer, more comfortable life.
We deeply appreciate any support towards Sammy's care.
With love and gratitude,
The Canu Family (Jen, Stefano, Gianluca, Sammy, and the Cats)
