WBCR News  is the largest, most inclusive, and most diverse student-led press source at Brooklyn College. We believe credible, accurate, balanced stories can be the future of media- and they should be!

We're hoping to expand a small 4-page newsletter called "The Brooklyn Hound " we founded on campus in Spring 2019 to 8-pages in Fall 2019!

Contribute to our proven success stories:

Two of our newscasters have been hired for paid internships based on clips they have published in WBCR News. In October, our team worked together to break news on a local story  with an exclusive and controversial interview hours before the New York Times, The New York Post, CNN, and local TV networks. Our unpaid work and time spent volunteering to build a new resource gained recognition from independent students, student organizations, and faculty both inside and outside media-related programs on campus over the span of just 10 weeks.

Your Money in Context & Where Your Money Would Go:

The recent merger of both campus newspapers allows them to have a budget of $20,000 per semester to print 12 pages and pay their staff. Our budget was a fraction of theirs, originally operating on a budget of $750 to do nothing but print 4-pages. $2,600 is the minimum we need just to print 8 colored pages for both the Fall and Spring semester. Through figuring out budget and the News Director sacrificing her own stipend, we only need to raise $600 more to get our expansion!

All we want to do is ensure the possibility of 20 weeks of newsletters that feature more diverse coverage of news and inevitably set up student writers and media leaders for professional development that gets them hired. If you are kind of enough to help us surpass this goal, that money would just go to funding The Brooklyn Hound for the year after (2020-2021) or giving allowance to make some special issues. We volunteer our time because we love what we do, and we have no issue with continuing to volunteer if it means we can raise the standard of news on campus.

It's no argument that news media needs help. We can't take on that mission without your support. Every little bit counts, and please know we'd appreciate you very much for helping us out!
