Hurricane Melissa hit Ewarton, Jamaica hard, leaving my home, my cousin’s, my mother’s, and our small community facing serious challenges. We’re dealing with downed trees that are a hazard, and we urgently need a retaining wall to keep debris from causing water damage. Both my cousin and I have been without power, and we’re trying to get generators so we can keep our homes safe and help others in the area. The storm showed us that even when you think you’re prepared, a category 5 hurricane can bring unexpected emergencies.

Our lives will change if we can get the support we need. Clearing trees that pose a hazard is a top priority, and having power will help us stay connected and keep food safe. My cousin and my mother both run small businesses selling chickens, and with electricity, they can keep them frozen for sale. If we can get generators, we’ll be able to help our neighbors charge their phones and stay in touch with loved ones. We’re organizing cleanup efforts—removing downed trees and making sure everyone is as safe as possible for the rest of hurricane season and beyond.

Getting support now would mean a safer, more secure future for all of us. It would help us recover, prepare for whatever comes next, and make sure our community can look out for each other. Every donation will go toward repairs, cleanup, and helping those in Ewarton who need it most.
