If you are lucky enough to know Ewa, you’ll know that she is one of the most kind, generous, upbeat and absolutely gorgeous people you’ll ever meet. And on top of all that, she is the most gifted and talented hairstylist in the world!
After her son Dominik’s spinal cord injury 5 years ago, Ewa needed to stop working to help with his recovery. For just the past year, she was able to return to work part-time. As a part-time hairstylist, Ewa does not receive the work-related benefits that regular full-time employees do. She works on commission, so if she isn’t working, she isn’t able to earn any money.
This past May, Ewa underwent a complete hysterectomy to address some minor issues and was scheduled to return to work in July. Two weeks after surgery, her doctor was stunned when the pathology report came back indicating she had cancer in both ovaries. She needed a second surgery and testing found that she has a genetic mutation that causes ovarian cancer and puts her at high risk for developing breast cancer.
Miraculously, her ovarian cancer was found at a very early stage. Ewa recently began 4 months of chemotherapy infusions to treat her cancer, then will have 2 years of an oral treatment to prevent its recurrence. She stopped working in May with the first surgery and will not be able to return to work until at least the beginning of 2024, after the chemotherapy is concluded and her immune system has recovered.
There are so many expenses not covered by insurance that are needed to help her tolerate the chemotherapy: wigs, soft head coverings, special creams for her skin and scalp, anti-nausea products, grocery delivery, etc. All on top of the very expensive copays for surgeries, doctor visits, prescriptions and treatments. With the loss of her income, this year's expenses are going to be at least $50,000.
Ewa is such a positive person and she is not letting this latest setback get her down. She is ready to fight this cancer and looks forward to having the chemotherapy and treatments behind her.
This “Go Fund Me” campaign is being set up by members of Ewa’s family and close friends. The goal is to help reduce the stress of financial worries in order for her to devote her time, energy, and resources to getting better.
