Greece Relief Fund (GRF) is an emergency fund set up by the news organization Greek Reporter to help the victims of the great fires of August 2021 on the Greek Island of Evia, Greece. The fires were raging uncontrolled for an unprecedented nine days bringing unimaginable devastation on this Greek island in what became known as the worst ecological disaster of Greece. More than fifteen villages were evacuated and hundreds of homes have turned to ashes. Surrounding nature is dead. The Fund will offer direct relief to the families who lost their primary home from the fire on Evia.
How much we want to raise:
We hope to raise as much funds as possible to directly help as many families as we can that are currently homeless from the fire. The destruction the island has suffered is simply unimaginable. No fundraiser would bring back what the fire turned to ashes, but as much as possible direct relief to the families is our goal.
How we will distribute the Funds raised here:
Greek Reporter's team on the island, besides reporting on the situation from the first day, it has already started to identify the families that need these funds the most. We are also working with the local authorities in helping identifying those individuals and their financial situation. The funds will be broken up to increments of 2,000 USD and dispersed directly to the bank accounts of the fire victims.
Absolute Transparency
The funds will be handed in the form of cashiers checks or wire transfers, directly to the victims. No other intermediary "authority," private or public, will have access to the funds collected by this fundraiser. The action will be broadcasted live on facebook for absolute transparency.
