Help Everleigh Recover from a Playground Accident

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, my sweet daughter, Everleigh, suffered a devastating injury while playing at the Wright Field North Child Development Center on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base—a place that should be safe for children but turned into a nightmare for our family.

While on the playground, Everleigh was trying to keep her friends safe from a known broken seesaw—one that should have been secured with caution tape or removed entirely. She knew it was off-limits and tried to warn the other kids to stay away. But in a heartbreaking turn of events, when she reached out to stop the seesaw, the broken metal springs crushed her right ring finger.

The daycare staff acted quickly, calling the base fire department, and Everleigh was rushed to the 88th Medical Group Emergency Room. There, she underwent an emergency procedure with around 10 stitches in an attempt to save her finger. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, we have now been told that she will lose the top portion of her finger.

As a single mother and childcare provider at Wright Field Child Development Center, I have always relied on the daycare’s care for my children so that I could continue working to provide for them. But now, due to this avoidable accident, I am unable to work until Everleigh is cleared by her doctors to return to school—a process that is expected to take at least 6-8 weeks.

This unexpected tragedy has not only left us heartbroken but has also created a significant financial burden. Between medical expenses, lost wages, and the cost of caring for Everleigh during her recovery, we are facing an incredibly difficult time.
