Help Everett Regain His Independence

Donation protected
If you know my dad, you know he’s an eccentric musician. He loves the Providence public library, walks everywhere from his Armory District apartment, and has his favorite haunts. He’s a chatty man and will regale you with stories from ancient history, his time as a folk and sea shanty musician, show you his recent leather-crafted, home-patched clothing, and not let you forget that this fast-paced internet world is not one of his choosing.

On May 22, 2024, my father, Everett Brown, was riding a Providence city bus when he suffered a stroke. He has lost all mobility in his left side and his speech was greatly impaired. Through the rehabilitation he has been receiving, his speech has made vast improvements and every day he gains strength.

After 5 weeks in hospitals, Dad is now in a nursing home where he is receiving an hour of therapy a day and care. In 14 days, Dad will be released from the nursing home but still will be in need of care. Should he be able to go home, his apartment will need to be outfitted for handicap accessibility.

Right now, Dad is hoping to buy more time at the nursing home. At $200/day, he can stay and get therapy and care as long as he continues to make improvements. He is working hard, learning new ways to use his left leg, and actively working to awaken his left arm. Every day he is able to stay and get therapy, betters his chances of returning to the simple but fulfilling life he once knew.

Money from this fundraiser will be put towards more time in therapy and care. Every $200 is another day he receives the services he needs and therapies to get him to a place he can live on his own again and get back to his independent life.

I know my dad has reached and touched more people than I see every day. I am sure people have heard his story and want to know a way they can help. For this reason, I have decided to do this. Any amount will help him get closer to his end goal of walking and using his left arm in some capacity again.
