The first photo of Everett (click on the link to see his Facebook recovery album) is from 4/11/25 when he was pulled from the over-crowded shelter in Rockford and brought to my yard for his original intake photos. He was such a sickly dog, emaciated, covered in bite wounds on his face and his coat was dull and covered in dander. I didn't have a foster home for him at that time and his life was in danger, but thankfully our friends at Tail Gate For Dogs in Elmhurst, IL were able to take him in.
We started him on a good diet and assuming he had underlying tick borne disease, we started him on antibiotics and some great immune system boosters. A few days later I took him for his vet appointment and it was discovered that he had a grade 4/6 heart murmur. Knowing what I know about heart valve weakness, I was sure he was going to test positive for at least Lyme disease. His blood work revealed he was anemic and his Lyme disease was confirmed. We weren't exactly sure what he could be mixed with, but DNA testing revealed Everett is actually 58% German Shorthaired Pointer and 42% Vizsla.
The new photo of Everett is from May 31st and he doesn't even look like the same dog!! While he is still thin, his energy level and coat is much improved and the wounds on his face have healed. He's a very happy and playful dog. My guess is his heart is a lot stronger now too as he has typical GSP/Vizsla energy now. The next step in his care is his neuter and dental. As we have not had any sponsors for his care, I hope to raise $1,000 or more for his old vet bills and his new surgery expenses. Plus we needs funds raised for all his food, medications and supplements.
I hope you can help us with Everett's care in the hopes that he finds a new loving, forever home soon!
