This is Everardo. He is a son, a brother, a friend, a grandpa, but most importantly my dad. He is the sole provider of my family. He has fought his whole life to be able to provide for his kids and wife and now has to fight something everyone fears: cancer.

When we got the news, it came to us as a shock. He was perfectly healthy and felt completely fine, or so we thought. He went for his annual doctor’s visit, and the doctors found something abnormal in his blood. After further testing, they found out that he has leukemia, AML to be exact. An aggressive cancer that has killed countless people, and survival rates are said to be low.

This devastating news explained a series of health scares and issues that he may be facing for months or years on end. With his hospitalization and medical treatments, he is unable to work, and everything is unsure right now about his future.

Everything has happened so fast, and all of our lives have completely flipped upside down. He is currently hospitalized, he is scared and my family is struggling, both financially and emotionally. With my mother having to take care of my three little brothers, one of whom also has type 1 diabetes, as well as going for hospital visits daily, she can only do so much.

This is not something we ever thought we would experience. I’m sure nobody ever thinks that anything like this will happen to them. But it did. And it can happen to anyone. At anytime.

This is why we need your help. Anything we receive will be going towards any medical treatments he will be needing as well as the hospitalization expenses. With him being the sole provider, it will also be going towards any housing expenses and utilities until we find a way to keep ourselves afloat.

Este es Everardo. Él es un hijo, un hermano, un amigo, un abuelo, pero lo más importante, mi papá. Es el único proveedor de mi familia. Ha luchado toda su vida para poder mantener a sus hijos y a su esposa, y ahora tiene que enfrentar algo que todos temen: el cáncer.

Cuando recibimos la noticia, nos sorprendió. Estaba perfectamente sano y se sentía completamente bien, o eso creíamos. Fue a su chequeo físico anual y los doctores encontraron algo anormal en su sangre. Después de más pruebas, descubrieron que tiene leucemia, AML para ser exactos. Un cáncer agresivo que ha matado a incontables personas, y se dice que las tasas de supervivencia son bajas.

Esta devastadora noticia explicó una serie de problemas de salud y sustos que puede enfrentar durante meses o años. Con su hospitalización y tratamientos médicos, no puede trabajar, y todo es incierto en este momento sobre su futuro.

Todo ha sucedido tan rápido, y nuestras vidas han dado una vuelta inesperada. Actualmente, está hospitalizado, esta asustado y mi familia está luchando, tanto financiera como emocionalmente. Mi madre tiene que cuidar de mis tres hermanos pequeños, uno de los cuales también tiene diabetes tipo 1, además de ir a visitas hospitalarias a diario.

Esto no es algo que alguna vez pensamos que experimentaríamos. Estoy seguro de que nadie piensa que algo así les sucederá. Pero sucedió. Y le puede pasar a cualquiera. En cualquier momento.

Por eso necesitamos su ayuda. Cualquier cosa que recibamos irá destinada a los tratamientos médicos que necesitará, así como a los gastos de hospitalización. Siendo él el único proveedor, también se destinará a los gastos de vivienda y servicios públicos hasta que encontremos una manera de mantenernos a flote.
