Hi everyone,
My name is Evelyn, and I am a high school social worker in Lee County, Florida, where I spend my time supporting high school students, serving as an advisor to organizations, and volunteering with local non-profits.
On August 12th, 2024 my life changed drastically and unexpectedly. I went in for a surgery on my cervical spine to address some ongoing health concerns, but post-surgery, I began to experience serious neurological complications. These include losing the ability to walk without assistance, loss of sensation, and difficulty using my right hand.
As I worked through the recovery process, doctors discovered that I have a degenerative spinal cord condition. This has worsened my symptoms and will permanently impact my mobility and health. For the past two months, I have been in and out of hospitals and rehab facilities working hard to regain my strength and mobility.
Unfortunately, being out of work while accumulating medical bills has been an additional challenge. I’m reaching out for help to cover medical expenses not covered by my insurance, purchase assistive equipment like a bed rail and shower chair, and cover some basic living costs so I can continue to focus on my recovery.
Any support—whether through a donation or simply sharing this page—will mean the world to me and help alleviate the financial stress. With your help, I’m hoping to regain my mobility and return to my students and activities I love. Nothing would make me happier than getting back to serving in my community, going for walks, and getting back on my bike at CycleBar again.
