Help Evelyn Go Home
After being placed in an assisted living facility to receive physical therapy for a broken femur, 89-year-old Evelyn Tomei, a two-time cancer survivor, was infected with COVID-19. Now past the point of needing emergency intervention, Kaiser wants to send Evelyn, still infected with COVID and struggling with bronchitis, back to the facility that first exposed her to the Coronavirus. If returned to this facility, she will continue not to receive the physical therapy necessary to recover from her injury. Still, even more terrifying to Evelyn, is the fear that if returned, she will join the growing number of residents who have lost their lives. Faced with the reality that Evelyn’s life hangs in the balance, her family has taken on crippling financial hardships to get her proper care from the safety of her home, as she cannot be placed in another facility until she is healthy. The family is seeking assistance to meet the financial demands of Evelyn’s care over the next month, which breaks down to approximately $800 a day. In a time of global suffering and financial strain, we are deeply thankful to anyone who can help us keep Evelyn safe.
