A family very near and dear to my heart is going through an unimaginable tragedy. Six-year-old Layla Lopez's health has been steadily declining, and there is nothing else doctors can do to improve it. Layla was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a condition that weakens the side of the heart that pumps blood to the entire body. Layla has had numerous surgeries, spent months in the hospital and has been diligently cared for by a family that loves her.

Stephanie and Santos mean a great deal to me and to a lot of other people. Santos is a former marine and currently serves on the NYPD. Santos and his family have given a great deal to their country and community, and it is our time to do something in return. Although there is nothing that can make losing a child any easier, there is a way we can lessen the financial burden of this unexpected expense. Please help us give Layla the beautiful memorial that she deserves. Funds will be used to pay for any funeral expenses, any excess funds raised that do not go to the funeral will be used to set up a savings account for Nick, Layla's beloved big brother.
