My love for animals began in childhood, growing up on a farm surrounded by horses and other animals. I competed in the equestrian field and spent countless hours caring for my pony. When my pony became ill, I took on the responsibility of managing his care at a young age. That experience changed everything for me—it was the moment I knew I wanted to become a veterinarian. Caring for an animal who depended entirely on me taught me compassion, responsibility, and the importance of advocating for animals who cannot speak for themselves. Since then, I have worked hands-on with farm animals and volunteered on multiple farms, deepening my commitment to animal welfare and conservation.
Now, I have the incredible opportunity to participate in a Wildlife Conservation Internship in Nosy Be, Madagascar, through Global Vision International (GVI) from May 9th through May 23rd. Madagascar is home to some of the most unique and endangered wildlife on Earth, and this internship will allow me to work directly in the field assisting with wildlife surveys, conservation research, and habitat protection efforts. Participating in this program will help me gain hands-on experience with endangered wildlife and fragile ecosystems, which is essential for my goal of pursuing conservation medicine and marine veterinary science. I will learn how animal health, habitat preservation, and human activity are interconnected, and how veterinary care can play a role in protecting entire ecosystems. The skills, field experience, and mentorship I gain will directly shape my future as a veterinarian dedicated to wildlife conservation and animal welfare, allowing me to better advocate for and protect species that cannot protect themselves.
As a student, covering these costs on my own is extremely challenging, but this opportunity means everything to me. This internship represents years of dedication, hard work, and a lifelong dream of helping animals and protecting endangered species.
