Help Evan Summerville Get Back in Action

Friends, near and far, Thursday, Nov. 11, Evan, our 24 yo son, fell from scaffolding while working on his new house.

Brandy, Evan's wife wrote this, "I love Evan for many, many reasons one of them being he is a “go getter.” Unfortunately this personality trait landed him in the hospital. Evan was finishing putting up siding on our house, he had one more piece to put up at the highest peak. Needless to say, the odds were not in his favor; he fell at least 16 feet and landed on his arms. He broke/fractured both wrists and the bottom of his arms. He will need surgery on both arms in a couple of weeks. We are very blessed because it could have been much, much worse and he is expected to have a full recover. A lot of family has asked about our finances. Evan is self employed and we do not have insurance. We are lucky because we are living with family until our house is done. We are waiting until we get home to work out all the details and will give an updated then. Thank you for all the prayers!"

In the hospital ER, he had an MRI, Ct scans, x-rays; whatever they needed to do. He sustained significant fractures to both wrists and lower arms. He was given some sort of sedative in order for them to partially reset his arms so that they could be safely splinted. They did a revision on one arm a second time. He spent two nights in the hospital initially and will need to return the week after next (Thanksgiving week is our estimate) for surgeries which will require, at least, another overnight stay. After that, he and Brandy were told physical and occupational therapy will both be needed for a full recovery.

Many people have already reached out, asking what they can do. Evan does not have health insurance and does physical labor; working for himself doing welding, fence construction, carport type buildings and asphalt sealcoating. There's a double whammy here, friends. Brandy has talked to human resources at the hospital about community resources. The orthopedic surgeon assured them both that he would do the surgeries required despite them not having health insurance. These two are such great young people, working hard to build a good, solid life for their little family. I, Sabine, Evan's mom have been watching their 16 month old sweetie, Sawyer, often these past few weeks while they have been working on the build. She's such a little joyful bundle of energy, I absolutely love having her. Now things are a bit turned sideways as the rest of the family needs to dive into physical construction work again while figuring out how Evan will keep his income going so they won't lose qualifying for the mortgage on the house they are nearly done building. Oh, Life, I love you but you are so complicated!!

Most of all, we appreciate your prayers for good, swift and complete healing for Evan, peace of mind and spirit, and confidence moving forward for all of us.
