Help Evan in his battle with severe mental illness
Donation protected
I'm doing this GoFundMe on behalf of a dear friend whose led an extremely hard life dealing with treatment-resistant depression and all the awful symptoms that go along with it. Incorrectly and dangerously misdiagnosed for most of his life, he had to abandon his beloved career in dance to focus his life entirely on managing his mental health. On trying to stay alive. A survivor of several horrendous suicide attempts (one he only survived through a sheer miracle of fate), Evan has struggled for his entire life.
A few years ago I ran a GoFundMe for him to get a then experimental treatment called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). After years of ketamine treatment whose benefits had faded dramatically spiraling him back into a cycle of suicidal depression and crippling anxiety, TMS was a miracle. A treatment that uses magnets to regulate the mood center of the brain, he finally got relief from the worst parts of his condition. This allowed him to make much progress in therapy and finally find medication that kept his worst impulses at bay, as well as allowing him to do very brave deep trauma work.
Unfortunately, the benefits of TMS are not permanent. Evan is now in desperate need of the treatments again to keep him from returning to his previous, frightening condition. Unable to work, Evan exists at the mercy of constantly shifting governmental policies for assisting people with such severe mental health issues.
Not only is this treatment essential to his well-being now, with the new policies coming into place, there's no guarantee he will be allowed to get it in a few months. And even with assistance, the cost of the procedure out of pocket is still astronomical, much more than Evan could ever pay.
Evan is one of my closest friends, a wonderful, kind and brave man who has lived a life he doesn't deserve. Watching him recover and finally find hope in life has been one of my greatest joys. The idea of that slipping away horrifies me. I don't want to lose him.
Please consider donating to help Evan so he can live the life he should, a life of happiness and joy, all of which he always brings to others. Thank you.
