Help Evan in his battle with Cancer

Our story begins like this…. After our 13-year-old son Evan was dealing with headaches and dizziness after Christmas causing him to miss several days of school, we took him to his pediatrician office where the general consensus was vertigo and other appointments were made. The headaches and dizziness persisted followed by vomiting when he got up. We then took him to ER when it became overwhelming. Once again, the consensus was vertigo. We returned to ER after a call to the doctor’s office that symptoms had worsened. This trip a CAT scan was performed, and his mother and I heard one of the scariest things you can hear which was “a mass is found in your son’s brain”. They shipped us immediately to Albany Med and the Tumors were removed the next day. The initial feelings were that the tumor didn’t seem aggressive followed by initial labs saying the same.

The nightmare continues…..Secondary labs showed that the tumors were now Malignant High-Grade Glioma. This will now become a fight for our son’s life due to no fault of his own.

We now have a plan after consulting with doctors from Dana Farber and Albany Med., which will begin with us spending 6 weeks in Boston for Proton Therapy while also having to endure Chemotherapy. You can all imagine the strain this will be on Evan as well as for the family both logistically (3 hours away)and financially (med bills $10,000 already, food, hotel, gas). Another part of this is for Evan to enjoy the time he has waiting around in a strange city. (for Evan while his current treatment will last 1 hour a day he is away from home and friends in a strange room for weeks at a time).

This will just be the beginning of his journey of hope as we know this will be followed by some form of Chemotherapy.

We are really uncomfortable asking for this kind of assistance, but we have also been told by co-workers, friends and family that they want a means in which to help.
