Urgent Help Needed: Evacuate My Family from War-Torn Gaza

Dear Friends, and Supporters of Humanity.

I am reaching out in desperate need to evacuate my family from the horrors of the war in Gaza and find them safety. My name is Yousif Alagha, and my family—my wife Hazar, and our three children, Naieem, Reem, and Nada—are trapped in a nightmare of genocide. Life in Gaza has been incredibly tough since October 2023, with bombs and airstrikes turning our once lively streets into battlefields. We have lost our home, our sense of security, and our livelihoods.

Our Dire Situation

Currently, we are displaced in a small farmhouse with 40 other refugees in the west of Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, after our home was bombed. We continuously move from place to place, desperately seeking shelter, water, and food. The situation in Gaza is terrifying, and every day is a struggle to survive.

Our children constantly ask us why this is happening to our family. They wonder if there are places in the world without war. We try to reassure them, but the reality is harsh. They ask when they can go back to school and see their friends again, but their school was demolished. We try to create moments of happiness amidst the chaos, whether through drawing, playing games, or discussing their dreams for the future.

Our Story and Need for Help

I took pride in my career as a lecturer with the support of my wife, but now I have no job to return to after the university campuses were destroyed. Our financial situation has reached a crisis point. With no income and our savings depleted, we struggle to afford even the most basic necessities—food, water, medicine. Every day is a battle for survival.

Despite these challenges, I refuse to let the war crush our dreams. I am nearing the completion of my PhD thesis at Santiago de Compostela University in Spain, and education has always been our beacon of hope. The financial burden of arranging our evacuation through the Rafah/Egypt crossing is now the main obstacle to our safety.

يستمر أطفالنا في سؤالنا لماذا يحدث كل هذا لعائلتنا؟ لماذا نعيش ما زلنا هنا في هذا المكان المخيف؟ يتساءلون عما إذا كانت هناك أماكن في العالم بدون حرب! في البداية، حاولنا تطمينهم بأن الأمور ستستقر قريبًا وسيعود السلام، لكن الواقع قاس. دائمًا ما يسألون متى يمكنهم العودة إلى منزلنا ومدرستهم ورؤية أصدقائهم مرة أخرى؟ نقول لهم أننا نأمل في أن يأتي السلام، وسيكونون قادرين على العودة والالتقاء بالجميع مرة أخرى. من المؤلم أن نخبرهم بأن مدرستهم قد هدمت، ولن يتمكنوا من العودة للدراسة هذا العام. نحاول إحداث لحظات سعادة مع أطفالنا ما استطعنا، سواء كان ذلك من خلال الرسم أو اللعب أو ببساطة قضاء الوقت معًا ومناقشة أحلامهم.

Me estoy comunicando en una necesidad desesperada de evacuar a mi familia de los horrores de la guerra en Gaza y encontrarles seguridad. Mi familia - mi esposa Hazar, nuestros tres hijos Naieem, Reem y Nada, y yo, Yousif - estamos atrapados en una pesadilla de genocidio. La vida en Gaza ha sido increíblemente difícil desde octubre de 2023. Las bombas y los ataques aéreos han convertido nuestras calles una vez animadas en campos de batalla. Nuestros hogares, escuelas y hospitales han sido destruidos, obligando a muchos de nosotros a huir y buscar refugio donde podamos. Hemos perdido todo - nuestro hogar, nuestra sensación de seguridad y nuestros medios de vida.

La situación en todas partes de Gaza sigue siendo horrible y aterradora, llena de horror. Actualmente, estamos desplazados en una pequeña granja acompañando a 40 personas que huyen en el oeste de Khan Younis, en el sur de la Franja de Gaza, después de que nuestro hogar en Khan Younis fuera bombardeado y nos viéramos obligados a huir. Hemos sido continuamente desplazados de un lugar a otro, buscando desesperadamente refugio, agua y comida.

Nuestros hijos nos preguntan constantemente por qué todo esto le está pasando a nuestra familia. ¿Por qué seguimos viviendo aquí, en este lugar tan aterrador? Se preguntan si hay lugares en el mundo sin guerra. Inicialmente, tratamos de tranquilizarlos diciéndoles que las cosas se calmarían pronto y que volvería la paz, pero la realidad es dura. Siempre preguntan cuándo podrán volver a nuestra casa, a la escuela y ver a sus amigos de nuevo. Les decimos que esperamos que llegue la paz y que podrán regresar y reunirse con todos. Es desgarrador decirles que su escuela fue demolida y que no podrán volver a estudiar este año. Tratamos de crear momentos de felicidad con nuestros hijos cuando podemos robar momentos de tranquilidad, ya sea a través de dibujar, jugar juegos o simplemente pasar tiempo juntos y hablar de sus sueños para el futuro.

Me enorgullezco de mi carrera con el apoyo de mi esposa para maximizar la capacidad de mantener a nuestra familia. Trabajo como profesor, pero actualmente no tengo trabajo al que regresar después de la demolición de los campus universitarios. Además, nuestra situación financiera ha llegado a un punto crítico, sin ingresos y con nuestros ahorros agotados, luchamos por pagar incluso las necesidades más básicas: comida, agua, medicinas. Cada día es una batalla por la supervivencia, una lucha por mantener a nuestra familia alimentada y protegida.

A pesar de estos desafíos, me niego a dejar que la guerra aplaste nuestros sueños. Soy profesor en la Universidad de Palestina y estoy cerca de completar mi tesis de doctorado en la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, España, para desarrollar mi carrera. La educación siempre ha sido nuestra luz de esperanza, nuestra mejor oportunidad para un futuro mejor.

La carga financiera de organizar nuestra evacuación a través del cruce de Rafah/Egipto es ahora el principal obstáculo para nuestra seguridad. Humildemente pido su compasión y generosidad. Cada pequeña contribución no es solo una donación, es una nueva esperanza para mí y mi familia de crear una vida mejor en la que nos apoyemos mutuamente como socios y sigamos prosperando. Frente a la adversidad, he encontrado mi propósito: mostrar al mundo que no seremos vencidos. Pero no puedo hacerlo solo. Necesitamos su apoyo para marcar la diferencia en nuestras vidas.
