Help Eugene's Family After His Sudden Passing

Hello everyone,

My name is Chris Suarez, a friend and colleague of Eugene Guzman whom passed away early Wednesday morning on January 29th, 2025 from a sudden heart attack while in his sleep. The news shocked everyone as just the day before Eugene would be seen carrying on with business as usual at work. I've set up this account to raise funds for Eugene's family in efforts to provide our friend Eugene with the proper "home going" celebration that he deserves.

Eugene grew up as a Bronx native near University Avenue & 167th Street. He spent 28 years of his life working in Hunts Point at the food market before becoming a City Park Worker for NYC Parks in 2017. For the last 8 years, 'Gene' worked at Ranaqua, The Bronx Parks headquarters as a member of the technical storehouse. He was truly a jack of all trades. 'Gene' was a stellar employee always going above and beyond to get the job done, always willing to lend a helping hand and was always eager to learn new things. Those who knew and loved 'Gene' know how great of a person he was always smiling, always cordial and always on the move. When he wasn't busy working Eugene loved spending time with his family whom he loved very much and you would always see him hanging out with his cousin Sorrell Rodriguez, also a long-time Park's employee. 'Gene' loved playing on the company softball team as the starting 2nd baseman, spent a lot of his free time fishing and would attend company holiday parties and events. 'Gene' was truly a loyal person and someone you could always count on. Many are devastated to know that he is no longer with us but we know that he will always shine down on us like the true kind spirit he always was. He will truly be missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and supervisors!

Eugene is survived by his lovely wife of 26 years Betsy, his 3 sons Jonathan, Alex & Carlos and his daughter Jessica. Eugene also has 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way!
