Simcha is a struggling disabled trans pet parent who can't afford emergency medical care for their cat.
Simcha's story:
For a while, I haven't been able to meet my own care needs, and now that's affecting my cat's health as well. It's hard not to feel like a bad pet parent. I just want to make sure she gets her necessary medical care.
Etta has advanced periodontal disease and needs dental surgery to remove a bunch of teeth. She has been in pain for a long time now, but she's very good at hiding it. I tried to have this procedure happen before but couldn't because of money, and now it's dire. She is scheduled for surgery on June 9th, in the hopes of avoiding the spread of infection and cascading health problems.
Beyond the costs for vet care (around $2,000 for surgery and aftercare), other essential emergency funds will go towards digging out of the hole towards baseline. My stretch goal is to raise an additional $3,500 for back rent and utilities. Anything over my $5,500 goal allows me to build a little reserve to move beyond playing the constant game of catch-up.
Adopting a cat was a lifelong dream.
Etta is a source of love, meaning and stability in my life. Things have been so rough and I am currently drowning. I have fallen behind financially, and I can’t meet my own basic needs due to disability and under employment. Because of Etta, I can’t just fall into a hole and give up, because she is my priority. Etta and my community help me push back and get through it all every day.
