Hello, my name is Kristin, a long-time friend of the Lian family.
On October 30th, the Lian family’s world changed in an instant.
During a school kickball tournament, 17-year-old Ethan attempted a tumbling backflip — something he had done successfully before — and suffered a catastrophic fall, fracturing his C1 and C2 vertebrae. He was left unresponsive on the field. Thanks to the quick actions of CPR-trained students and fast EMS response, Ethan was stabilized and airlifted to a trauma center, where he remains in the ICU fighting with incredible strength.
Ethan is an exceptional young man — a newly-awarded Eagle Scout, dedicated wrestler, and high-achieving honors and AP student with dreams of becoming a commercial pilot. He is loved by his friends, admired by his peers, and cherished by his family.
Now, Ethan and his family are facing a life-altering journey. His recovery will require months of intensive rehabilitation, specialized medical care, and long-term support. His parents, Mary and Yuan, will be by his side every step of the way, which means time away from work and significant financial strain.
The family will also need to prepare for a new daily reality — including a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, accessible home modifications, and equipment to support Ethan’s mobility and independence.
Through all of this, hope remains strong. Ethan is a fighter. With the right care, time, and support, he has a chance to regain independence and return to the things he loves — like fishing with his best friends and working out at the gym.
How You Can Help
We are asking for prayers, love, and support for the Lian family during this unimaginable time. Every donation — no matter the amount — brings Ethan one step closer to the care and resources he needs on this long road ahead.
If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this page to help spread Ethan’s story.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with Ethan and his family.
Thank you.
With love and support,
~Kristin, a family friend.
