Our son Ethan has been let down by the system meant to support him. For four years, he has been on a part-time school placement, and for the past several months he hasn’t been attending at all. Despite our repeated requests for help, nothing meaningful was put in place.
As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to home educate him until he begins his place at a specialist school in September.
While we’re relieved he finally has the right school to support him, September still feels far away for a child who has already missed so much. Over this time, Ethan has lost confidence and become very reliant on being with me all the time. Without support outside the home, the transition back into education could be even harder.
This is why we’re hoping to raise funds for alternative provision, just two mornings a week, until September.
This will allow Ethan to:
*Spend time learning and engaging outside the home
*Rebuild confidence in a supportive environment
*Get used to being away from me again
*Develop routines that will help him settle into his new specialist school
Cost breakdown:
£80 per morning session × 2 sessions per week
Approximately 13 weeks = £2,080 total
We will be putting in as much as we can ourselves, but I only have my small business to rely on, which was set up because I couldn’t work due to caring for Ethan. Unfortunately, this isn’t enough to cover the cost of this essential provision.
We aren’t expecting miracles—just a few mornings of support could make all the difference for Ethan’s confidence, independence, and readiness for his new school.
Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards helping Ethan access the support he desperately needs and deserves.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read his story and for any support you can give.
