Help Ethan get to Japan to support his Dad at the AIDA Freediving World Championships.
- My name is Ethan, I live in South Australia with my family. I'm a teenager and think that my dad isn't very cool. Then one day dad told me he had been selected to represent Ireland at the World Championships in Japan!
- Dad's only been freediving for a few years so it made me feel surprised and very proud of him.
- Dad's freediving training involves holding his breath and swimming with weights around his neck and waist. He has long fins and swims underwater. Another way he freedives is holding his breath with his head in the water for as long as he can.
- When he's at home he lies on the livingroom carpet holding his breath for as long as he can. It is a very long time but dad says it's really not that long compared to what other freedivers can do.
- I really want to go to Japan to support dad at the competition. Dad said I want to go to see the country but the real reason is just to be there for dad. Please help me get the money together for my travel.
Dad's comments - Thanks for taking the time to read Ethan's GoFundMe. For the competition I am entering three disciplines including Dynamic Apnea with Bifins and Static Apnea. I am honoured to represent Ireland as I have only gotten into this sport in recent years and am still very much a beginner at 48 years old!
I know that one day my son won't want to spend as much time with me and that day is probably not too far away so it will be a significant moment in our lives together to travel to a different country, experience a different culture and for me to show my son that even an old dad can make it to a World Championships with a bit of training and belief.
I am representing my home nation of Ireland where I was born and raised until my mid-20s, way before our immigration to South Australia. I am strengthened by warm memories of my Mum and Nana; I think what they would say to me now? I know they would have words of encouragement trying to hide their worries.... but believing I can do it.
