Help Ethan During Medical Emergency

Donation protected
Hello all.

My name is Mya Campbell, and I'm reaching out to you on behalf of my boyfriend Ethan Mixon. Ethan is facing a challenging time as he battles health issues that have led to significant medical expenses.

On November 9th, 2023, Ethan was rushed to the hospital with hallucinations. The amazing medical staff has determined that he had undiagnosed type I diabetes, and that caused him to go into a state of DKA (diabetic Ketoacidosis). While this is treatable with proper care, there were more underlying issues to be discovered.

Around 3AM on November 10th, we received a call from the hospital that Ethan had to go into emergency surgery. A large portion of his small intestine was completely dead, and had to be removed. The doctors left the parts of the intestine that had a possibility of recovering in hopes to keep him from needing a colostomy bag. They planned on going in 24 hours later to remove any bowel that started to die after the infected parts were removed.

Ethan made it out of this surgery, but was in an extremely induced state and put on a ventilator. Later that day, the doctors determined that he was in a state of septic shock from the small intestine. His blood pressure was extremely low (regardless of the 4 pressers he was on), his temperature was extremely high, his liver is not functioning, and his kidneys were over 50% gone. The doctors said that if they had to administer CPR, his lungs would either crush or collapse, and cause internal bleeding if he survived it. With this information, our family still had hope. Even though surgery was risky, his mother and father, Kristin Martinelli and Mark Mixon, pushed for him to go inter surgery to see if there was more intestine to remove.

Against all odds, Ethan made it out of surgery. They removed more of his small intestine and he will now need a colostomy bag. As the doctors were bringing him back to his ICU unit, our entire family (and then some others that were in the same waiting room) cheered as he passed us. We made sure he knows we're all rooting for him to give him the power to keep fighting.

That is where we stand right now. Ethan is not done fighting. The support from the community is heard and will be relayed to him to keep him pushing harder.

Given the circumstances, there is a very high chance Ethan will be on disability when he makes it through this. On top of that, I am taking a leave of absence from work until further notice.

I am asking for your help during this time, as neither Ethan nor I will be able to work for an undetermined period of time.

What your support will cover:
  • Hospital stay
  • After care, including medications like insulin and antibiotics
  • Follow up appointments
  • Life expenses (rent, car payment, food, etc).
  • Medical procedures
  • Household needs
  • And more+

About Ethan

Ethan is 26 years old. His passion is hockey. Although he wasn't in a hockey league growing up, he always found a way to play. as a teen, he would gather his friends and play street hockey for hours. Eventually, he joined multiple groups to play. He is the former goalie for Queen City Ronin. Ethan is extremely fun-loving. He will always find a way to make people smile. If he was able to speak right now, I'm certain he would be the one that pushes the positive thoughts into everyone regardless of the odds.

He has gone through many struggles in life and pushed through all of them. Ethan is a fighter. He will fight through this.

THANK YOU!

I am speaking on behalf of Ethan and his family when I say this: We appreciate every single one of you. Just reading his story means the world to us.

Thank you all so much for your generosity and kindness.

Much Love,
Mya Campbell and Ethan's family, and dog
