Help Esteban fight HLH

My name is Maya Robles and a week ago, my brother Esteban was diagnosed with Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. HLH is a severe systemic inflammatory syndrome that can be fatal. The only treatment is to replace his immune system with a donors via stem cell transplant. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy to wipe out his immune system, in hopes the new immune system (stem cells) will take over and he’ll no longer be at risk for HLH flares, which are fatal if not transplanted. Esteban has been staying at Baylor Cancer Center in Dallas while he receives treatment and undergoes chemotherapy and is currently on a waitlist for the transplant. Doctors recommended that we make accommodations for Esteban as it is not an ideal situation for him to travel while he undergoes chemo and surgery. As a result, my mother is Esteban’s around the clock caretaker and my father is left to be the sole provider for their family of four. This, along with the emotional strain, can be a lot for one person to handle. I am hoping that this fund will provide a bit of financial comfort so that the focus can be on Esteban’s care.

Mi nombre es Mayra Robles y hace una semana, a mi hermano Esteban le diagnosticaron linfohistiocitosis hemofagocítica. La HLH es un síndrome inflamatorio sistémico grave que puede ser mortal. El único tratamiento es reemplazar su sistema inmunitario por un donante a través de trasplantes de células madre. Actualmente se está sometiendo a quimioterapia para acabar con su sistema inmunológico, con la esperanza de que el nuevo sistema inmunitario (células madre) se haga cargo y ya no esté en riesgo de sufrir brotes de HLH, que son mortales si no se trasplantan. Esteban se ha alojado en el Baylor Cancer Center en Dallas mientras recibe tratamiento y se somete a quimioterapia y actualmente está en una lista de espera para el trasplante. Los médicos recomendaron que hiciéramos adaptaciones para Esteban, ya que no es una situación ideal para que viaje mientras se somete a quimioterapia y cirugía. Como resultado, mi madre es la cuidadora de Esteban las 24 horas del día y mi padre es el único proveedor de su familia de cuatro miembros. Esto, junto con la tensión emocional, puede ser mucho para una persona.
