Help Establish a Slavic Monastic Studies Center

Donation protected
The Dialogos Institute is seeking donations towards a Center and Residential Research Fellowship in Byzantine Christian Studies to be established in Texas. A particular focus of prayer at the Center will be the eventual establishment of monastic life in the Russian Catholic tradition in the United States within this decade. We are seeking to raise an initial $100,000 by the end of 2021.

Former Russian Orthodox priest-monk and convert to the Catholic Church, Hilarion Heagy, has been invited by the Institute to help establish this Center and Residential Research Fellowship in honour of our heavenly patron, the Holy Great-martyr George, in memory of Pope Pius X, and with a with a clear vision of celebrating the deep richness and spiritual heritage of the Byzantine East. Fr. Heagy has joyfully accepted this offer of residence as he further discerns God’s will within the Catholic Church.

Knowing no other basis for true Christian unity, the Dialogos Institute adheres unequivocally to the Magisterium of Christ's Church, while maintaining the liturgical and spiritual heritage of the Byzantine-Slavonic rite through studies and prayer at the above proposed Residential Fellowship. Through such an effort, the Institute wishes to propagate a greater awareness and understanding of the beauty and richness of the East Slavic patrimony within the wider Catholic tradition. The principles of the Institute’s approach to the Slavic tradition are none other than those of Pope Pius X. In establishing the Russian Catholic Church in the early 20th century, Pope Pius was asked whether Russian Catholics should hold firmly to Russian synodal and Old Ritualist practices, or adapt to the more "latinized" Galician liturgical forms. Pope Pius replied that Russian Catholics should adhere to the synodal and Old Rite practices with the now famous response in Latin: "nec plus, nec minus, nec aliter" (no more, no less, no different). This principle continues to be observed by the Russian Catholic communities today and it is the principle and spirit which is at the very heart of this proposed Research Fellowship.

All donations made to the Dialogos Institute are tax deductible. 100% of donations will go to the proposed goal of a residential center of research and prayer in Texas. Donors will be remembered in daily prayer. Again, a particular focus of prayer will be the future establishment of monastic life in the Russian tradition in the United States within the Catholic Church. The center will focus its public outreach on the enrichment of the culture of the universal church by those elements of the Byzantine patrimony which have been most neglected in the West.
