Our world turned upside down when our 3-year-old daughter, Esmeralda, suffered a terrible accident. A 500-pound iron fence fell on her, pinning her to the concrete and causing her to lose consciousness. She lost a significant amount of blood before the ambulance arrived, and was rushed to UC Davis Children’s Hospital, where over 20 doctors and nurses worked to stabilize her. In the emergency room, Esmeralda experienced a major seizure and was admitted to the PICU, where she is currently being monitored and treated. She is on a ventilator, receiving IV sedatives, pain and seizure medication, and has already undergone a blood transfusion to replace what she lost. Esmeralda has several fractures, including her skull, eye socket, and nasal bone, and possible neck injuries that still need to be ruled out by further MRI scans. She continues to have small seizures due to brain swelling, and her doctors are doing everything they can to prevent further complications. Esmeralda will remain in the PICU for at least a week, and depending on her recovery, she may need to stay even longer.
This accident has made it impossible for my husband and me to go to work, as we need to be by Esmeralda’s side while she is in critical condition. On top of worrying about her health, we are now facing mounting bills, including the cost of ambulance transportation and her hospital stay. We never imagined we would be in this situation, and it is incredibly difficult to ask for help, but we know we can’t do this alone.
We are reaching out to our community for support—whether it’s a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing our story. Every bit of help means the world to us as we fight for Esmeralda’s recovery. Thank you for standing with our family during this unimaginable time.
