Burial Expenses for Suze's Mom

Donation protected
My mom, Beth, died at home on October 4, 2019. She was 75. It was a difficult transition for her both physically and emotionally. She wanted to die in her apartment so I got her hospice. They came in twice a day. The rest of the time her beloved sister, myself and her dear friend Trish supported her in her passing. It was hard to watch her suffer around the the clock, day after day for 8 days. Fortunately in the last two hours before she died she became peaceful as if her suffering had abated. In the end it just looked like she was serenely sleeping.

Mom had a tumultuous last 7 years. My dad died, (her husband of 50 years) she lost her house, her son was killed by a hit and run driver, and her step daughter passed away. As you might imagine she went into a deep depression and as her health declined so did her mental ability to make decisions.

I live on the west coast and she lived on the east coast. Due to a series of estrangements and me only being able to be back east intermittently, she was mostly alone and ended up in different facilities without an advocate by her side. Some were paid by her insurance but a few required out of pocket payments that she could ill afford on her fixed income with no assets to cash in. It was difficult to watch my vibrant, funny, capable mother devolve into this lonely and confused person, going in and out of health care facilities in various parts of Maine. She often didn't even know where she was. Very sad.

In the midst of these tragic events and her subsequent death it turns out she left no will, something I found out as I tried to get things in order. So now the state has taken over what little money she had in the bank and I have no way to pay for her cremation and other related expenses.

I need these funds as soon as possible and I will be in charge of paying the funeral home, and the final payment for her in home caregiver, who was an angel but not covered by insurance.

Thank you for listening to Beth's story and for any help you can provide. I am forever grateful.
