On December 8, 2025, Firefighter EMT Eryn Orduna and Firefighter Paramedic John Parris were responding to the hospital with a patient when the unthinkable occurred. While operating their ambulance with lights and sirens, a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed failed to yield and violently struck the unit.

Both Eryn and John were transported to the hospital following the crash. We are grateful to share that John continues to improve, though he still has a long way to go in his recovery, and Eryn was later discharged. However, her road to healing is far from over.

Eryn is a dedicated and compassionate Firefighter EMT with Polk County Fire Rescue, and a newer member of our department who has already earned the respect and admiration of her peers. Beyond the uniform, Eryn is a single mother to a five-year-old son, who is her entire world. She is known for her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine care for the people she serves—both on the job and in her personal life.

Since being released from the hospital, Eryn has faced significant challenges. She is currently struggling with mobility, relying on a walker to get around, and will be out of work for an extended period as she continues treatment, attends frequent medical appointments, and undergoes physical therapy for her injuries.

During this time, medical expenses and day-to-day costs have quickly added up. We are asking for the support of our community to help ease the financial burden Eryn is facing while she focuses on healing and caring for her son.

Any donation—no matter the amount—will make a meaningful difference and help support a firefighter who has always been there for others. Your generosity will allow Eryn to concentrate on recovery, knowing that her fire service family and community stand beside her.

Thank you for your support, prayers, and continued kindness during this difficult time.
