Hi, my name is Frank Sr., and I’m raising funds for my son, Frank “Ernie” Basquez.

If you’ve ever met Ernie, you know exactly who he is the moment he walks into a room. He’s the one making people laugh, checking on everyone else, and bringing a kind of joy that’s hard to put into words. He has always been happy-go-lucky, the kind of person who shows up for others without being asked.

That’s just who he is.

Five weeks ago, my son suffered a devastating stroke.

In an instant, everything changed. Ernie is now paralyzed on his left side and confined to a wheelchair. As his father, it’s incredibly hard to see him go through this, to watch someone so full of life suddenly have to fight for the most basic things we all take for granted.

But Ernie hasn’t given up.

Every single day, he is pushing himself through therapy at home, determined to regain his strength and independence. I see the fight in him, even on the hardest days. His spirit is still there, but the truth is, recovery from a stroke like this takes more than determination alone.

He needs specialized, intensive rehabilitation.

Right now, his only insurance is Medicaid, which covers very little of the care he urgently needs. The kind of therapy that could truly change his outcome—help him walk again, help him regain independence—is simply not covered.

As a father, it’s incredibly difficult to know what he needs… and not be able to provide it on my own.
