UPDATE: August 1, 2025
As of yesterday we have moved to hospice status. Our daddy can barely stay awake for 2-3 minutes at a time. Getting him out of bed is no longer and he isn’t speaking. Seeing our momma cry so much is so saddening and even more sad to see the strongest man we have ever known to be helpless. We appreciate you all so much and have love for each and every one of you. Please pray for us as we prepare for daddy’s journey home.
UPDATE: July 17, 2025
Today we received diagnosis of Advanced non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. My daddy is still too weak to do any kind of treatment, nor will the tumor be able to be removed. Discharge from rehab is projected for July 21. After he will see his heart doctor on the 21st and the 22nd he will see the neurosurgeon that did daddy’s surgery where we will get more information as far as time limits and what to expect. We thank you all for keeping us in your prayers as they do help us to keep calm and collective, but most importantly we feel we have an abundance of love. Thank you all soooo much!
It becomes unclear and complete chaos when tragedy hits your home. That is exactly what has happened to us for the past month. Everything all of the sudden is so complicated and emotional. Our story could have perhaps possibly been avoided, but nevertheless it is here, and we are trying to deal with it as calmly as possible, but we are human and sometimes we lose control and definitely feel overwhelmed.
On 6/23 daddy went to Three Crosses hospital because he said he felt the way he did when he had his first heart attack. He was admitted for observation and released the next day. 6/25 mom and I brought him back to Cruces because he was acting like he was having a stroke. (Right side of his body was very weak and he would turn in foot when he walked). Retta met us here at Mountain View Hospital. It wasn’t but maybe an hour after getting CT we found out daddy has a “tumor and brain bleed,” in the Corpus Callosum to be exact. We were good, we didn’t panic. He was admitted to ICU awaiting tests and next steps. 6/30 we were moved to Three Crosses where he had MRI and on 7/2 he had biopsy. Because of where the tumor is located it is too dangerous to be respected.
Daddy is now in Southern New Mexico rehabilitation center and things just aren’t as expected. This is something we aren’t educated on and we just thought dad would bounce back like he always does. We had no clue we would be in Cruces for an entire month through hospital stay, surgery and now rehab. And we definitely weren’t expecting to have to alter living conditions in order to take daddy home. Daddy’s release date is set for July 21 as there isn’t much more that can be done. He isn’t strong enough for radiation to shrink tumor yet and he’s pretty exhausted. Daddy is unable to walk but maybe 10ft and that is with assistance, his main way of mobility is in a wheelchair. With this mom and I are being taught how to properly move dad. In the meantime, we are trying to renovate home to be handicapped accessible, bathroom, widen entries, and add ramps. We have purchased a new bed so his forever love can still sleep with him, but are still going to need to a railing for dad’s side as he does now suffer from seizures.
We appreciate all help in bringing him strength and comfort and helping momma with the financial burden or worrying about how quickly claims are paid or even accepted.
Thank you all so much in advance.
