On Saturday April 1st, Erin sent an SOS text to family asking to be taken to a doctor. After spending aday in the ER with full body pain, swelling and difficulty breathing, she was admitted to the ICU with Pneumonia and Group A Streptococcus in her blood. In the following 24 hours it was determined that she had sepsis from Staph and
Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome. Since then she has undergone many rounds of antibiotics as well as 2 surgeries to remove infection from her legs and hand . She may need to stay for weeks to treat the infection before she can go home and begin physical therapy. Erin is a self employed Massage Therapist and will have to take several months off of her work to heal. Any financial help would go towards her medical bills as well as her living expenses while she is unable to work.
In addition to the hardships she’s faced, she was turned away from both hospitals that take her insurance, for lack of available beds. The extent of the lifesaving bills are unknown, but attached is a link showing the median cost of bills for treatment, not including the cost of care she required for complications.
