My name is Erin Jackson. You may know me as Esco, EJ, or by no name at all. I'm a 36-year-old Cincinnati native who was laid off in August of 2025 from a notable arts nonprofit in the area. It was a dream role, but due to federal funding cuts, I was first demoted and then later let go. Since then, I have been ineligible for unemployment, and my savings and retirement funds have been depleted. This has left me facing immense financial hardship and uncertainty about the future.
Currently, I am behind on rent in a mold-ridden apartment, unable to afford basic household expenses and utilities, and desperate for car maintenance assistance. I am also without medical insurance while dealing with ovarian health concerns, and my student loan debt is in default. Each day has become a struggle to meet my most basic needs, and the weight of these challenges has been super overwhelming.
Support from this fundraiser would mean a better quality of life, improved mental bandwidth, and a chance to finally tackle what's been plaguing me for a year. It would help me catch up on rent, address urgent car and medical needs, and regain some stability. It was an extremely difficult decision to create this campaign as I pride myself in self-sufficiency. However, I realize that I need community more than ever and decided to share my story.
I appreciate you taking the time to read and reflect on my personal cause. I'm cognizant of the fact that much of the world is experiencing trials and I understand holding space for the initiatives you believe in. If you aren't able to give, I empower you to share this with your network or community. Infinite thanks for your time and consideration.
