Erin began her teaching journey five years ago with incredible passion and dedication! She is the kind of teacher you wished you’d had growing up. She is loved by all her students, their parents, and her colleagues. Erin recently noticed a mass in her neck. She went to the doctor, and after a series of tests, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which was a blow to our school family. The doctors have recommended chemotherapy treatment, preceded by some fertility treatments, to have a better chance of having healthy children after treatment.
With her resilient spirit and grace, Erin is managing her medical challenges while continuing her mission as a loving and kind teacher to all her students. For years, she has mentored her students on how to face adversity head-on with strength. Now, she shows them exactly how to do so with her beautiful example during this unimaginable time.
As we know, cancer treatment is extremely costly and disruptive to a person’s life. Even though Erin is facing this journey like the champion she is, she lives with her husband and dog on a modest income with limited insurance benefits, just as most teachers do. This journey will be long, and Erin needs financial support to help with her medical bills and living expenses. Her friends and family are surrounding her with love, support, and encouragement. We (her school family of teachers, staff and administators) now ask you to help us cover her with support to ease the financial burden from her life. Thank you for your generosity in helping sustain our beautiful Mrs. Erin as she courageously faces this journey before her. She is scheduled to begin her treatment in May 2021.
In the photo, taken just last week, Mrs. Erin is with one of her students, Michael. Mrs. Erin cut off her 24 inches of beautiful hair to donate it to Wigs for Kids before losing it during her upcoming chemotherapy treatments. Michael decided to shave his hair off and donate it in support of his middle school teacher.
