While we love us some Jinkx (of RuPaul's Drag Race), monsoons aren't a great thing. The DC Metro area was hit with some really fierce weather this morning with many areas experiencing severe flooding. One of the unfortunate victims of said flooding was one of our good friends, Erin Hopkins--Teacher, Karoke-er, an Cat Lady. Erin's apartment flooded with waters reaching waist level in less than 15 minutes and she has lost virtually everything. Fortunately, Erin was able to get herself and her cats to safety but is in dire need of emergency relief. She is currently working with her landlord and local tenant advocacies to determine her options and taking stock of what is salvageable and what needs to be replaced.
What is needed?
* Funds collected will be used for living expenses and to replace lost items. Erin is working to determine the extent of the damage but her bed (mattress and frame), couch, and clothes are for certain not salvageable.
*If you cannot donate (or even if you can), referrals to lawyers who specialize in tenant or property law are greatly appreciated.
*If you wish to donate items, we are also happy to facilitate and will furnish a full list of needed items.
We greatly appreciate any assistance you all can contribute. Erin is an amazing person and beautiful spirit. It is unimaginable to have to lose everything in the matter of moments due to the forces of mother nature.
