Help Erika’s Family Fight Her Dad’s Liver Cancer (Updated as of July 12, 2025)
Hi, my name is Karl Ivan, and I’m posting this fundraiser on behalf of my friend Erika and her family in the Philippines, as they continue fighting for her father’s life.
We’re updating this page as of July 12, 2025, to reflect his latest treatment progress and their family’s ongoing financial needs.
Their Journey So Far:
On May 23, Erika’s dad was admitted for what was meant to be a routine procedure to relieve jaundice and confirm his liver cancer diagnosis, initial ultrasound showed a 13cm liver mass. What followed were weeks of unexpected and serious complications:
Infections, blood pressure and sugar issues, fluid in the lungs
Several procedures to revise his bile drain catheter
A long, difficult hospital stay
He was discharged on June 30 but rushed back to the ER just days later due to new complications. After multiple clearances from doctors, Erika’s dad was finally approved to begin immunotherapy, a crucial next step in fighting liver cancer.
His first round of immunotherapy was officially administered on July 11. Thankfully, there are no major side effects so far. But this is only the beginning of a long journey.
Why Erika’s Family Still Needs Help:
While many generous people have already helped, sustaining long term cancer treatment is an overwhelming challenge for their family.
Here’s where things stand:
Initial hospitalization and procedures: Approximately $42,000 USD - partly covered through PhilHealth, HMO insurances, government medical assistance, and the first round of donations, but not fully paid off, with the remaining balance now carried through credit card installments.
Current hospitalization: Around $12,000-13,000 USD, not including doctors’ professional fees
Future immunotherapy treatment:
Monthly treatment for the next 11 months costing around $2,100-2,200 USD per month
A repeat treatment after 4-6 months, estimated at $6,000 USD
These are real, ongoing medical costs. Erika’s family is doing everything they can, but it’s more than they can carry on their own.
A Note from Erika’s Family:
Every patient’s case is unique. Erika’s dad’s doctors have created a specific treatment plan, and the costs reflect hospital pricing in the Philippines.
Sadly, scammers have tried to take advantage of their situation before. For everyone’s safety, please only donate through this GoFundMe or Erika’s official local QR codes.
How You Can Help:
If you’re able to donate again, or share this page to help amplify their story, Erika and her family would be truly grateful.
Thank you for reading and for standing with them in this fight.
