Thank you for taking the time to consider donating to help Erika pay for her accessible van repairs.
In March of this year, Erika’s accessible van, which she is able to drive from her wheelchair, began having the first of MANY issues. She called a dealership in Guthrie which is one of the only places that can work on accessible vans in the entire STATE, and had to get it towed there.
She was told she needed new batteries, which were $800. Due to the electrical systems in the van, she needed more than typical batteries, hence the high price. For this she had to get a loan for the payment.
A few weeks later, in mid-May, she noticed her van continued to have problems. On her way home from work, her van just stopped working. Again she called the dealership in Guthrie and was told to tow it in. She was told a few days later it would be another $1500 to replace some of the driving system parts.
She had to get a second loan for this new repair. Putting her loans now at $2200.
A week later, she was told her van was ready. She took time off and picked up her van. On her way back to OKC, the van began shaking and being almost incontrollable to drive. She called again and was told by the dealership they could tow it for her back to Guthrie. She was told that the workers hadn’t test driven it, and they didn’t know there was still an issue.
After much inspection, she was told she needed a new transmission. That would be $4200.
The transmission was changed and on 7/8/21, 2 weeks later, she was told that after test driving it, there is still issues. She must now add $500 to the $4200. Now owing $4760.
Total repairs have put her at $7060, this is not including towing fees or interest costs of the two loans.
During this stressful time without her van, Erika had to borrow a van from her best friend who happened to have it as a back up van herself. This van Erika can not drive, but rather relies on others to drive her around. Her parents have had to take off from work to drive her to appointments, and have also had to juggle getting her to and from work on a daily bases.
Erika is a strong and dedicated single mom. With the help of her family, she’s been able to give herself and her son a great life. However, without her own transportation the last few months have been some of the hardest. Creating this GoFundMe page has taken a lot of convincing and letting go of pride. We humbly ask for your help to reach at least $6K to pay off the current balance and offset the cost the loans that are already incurring interest.
Thank you so much for your support! Please share!!
