Help Erika get a LIVER and LIVE!

This is a plea for help for my friend, Erika. Erika is 32 years old, married to Jeremiah, mother of Ezekiel (6) Addison (5) and Josiah (3). She deserves the chance to live. Please help us.

Erika has biliary cancer that will kill her. Average life expectancy after diagnosis is 6-12 months and we are at 5 months.

She needs a liver transplant to save her life. We have jumped all of the hoops requested by the doctors at Emory knowing it will not save her, such as radiation, chemo, tests, counseling, more appointments than I can count. She has been medically APPROVED for a transplant.

Our final hurdle to be placed on the transplant list was insurance approval. Today Blue Cross Blue Shield DENIED her for a transplant at Emory in Atlanta, GA. Please note that they have paid for all of her other treatments at the same hospital.

They will approve her for a transplant in South Carolina or Florida, but there are a lot of other requirements. Erika will have to live close to the hospital during the waiting period and be within 50miles of the transplant hospital for 8 weeks post-transplant and have 2-3 support people (that cannot rotate out) with her 24/7 for 8 weeks. We need her transplant to happen in Atlanta to make that possible. It seems unethical to place a standard that would require someone have the resources to move out of state to receive life saving measures.

We need your help. I don’t know if we need to raise $700,000 and prove we can pay in cash before they place her on the transplant list (pending they even accept cash payments?!) or if there is a way to make this as public as possible and petition BCBS to change their decision. We are open and asking for any and all helpful suggestions!
