Help Erik and Laura's Family Reach Safety

Hi Everyone!

Since 2020, I have been collecting mutual aid funds for a beloved family living in Honduras, hiding from local gang violence and femicide attacks, and enduring the slow, painful process of seeking asylum in another country. They've needed assistance with rent, food, utilities, and medical treatment, and faced what it's like to work with underfunded, overcrowded, highly bureaucratic non-profits and government systems like NRC and UN refugee organizations, but still they persisted to keep their family safe.

Four plus years later, we thought it might never happen, but this week they got the call. On Sunday, December 1st, they will be moving to Vancouver, Canada, supported by the asylum-seeking and immigrant support programs that exist there. So many tears were shed at the news.

This fundraiser comes urgently, as they need a final boost of support THIS WEEK to pay final fees so the Honduran government will allow them to leave, and so they can acquire the last-minute things they need to pack and arrive in the big city for departure. These are things that every single non-profit they are working with is unwilling to help pay for.

Please, this Thanksgiving week, as we reflect on what abundance and privilege we have in our lives and gather with family, can you spare any support, big or small, to help this beautiful, loving family of 6 arrive safely in a new country, to leave behind the limbo of life they have been in for the past 7 years and start their new life?

This family has become dear friends to me: Erik, a truck driver and loving father, and Laura, a special-education specialized teacher, and their 4 children, the youngest of whom they even named after me. I can't wait to reunite with them after many long years when I go visit my aunt next in Canada.
