Hi friends and family of Eric!
My name is Steph! Eric (also known by friends as Bluey) has probably one of the biggest hearts I know. He is the first to help anyone who asks him, he is kind and loving to not only all the people in his life, but also to anyone who is lucky to cross his path. He is the kind of person who makes people feel seen and heard, in any interaction.
Despite being from Ireland, the land of the lucky, Eric has had some very hard luck lately. 11 months ago, Eric broke his leg in a skiing accident. It was a very bad break, a spiral fracture of the tibia and fibula. This left Eric in quite severe pain for many months. He was off work for 6 months, and then, despite still limping and being in some pain, was given the go ahead to go back to work, by the surgeon who had done his operation. They told him the pain was part of the healing.
Well, fast forward 4 months later, and the pain was getting worse. Clancy (his loving partner) would urge Eric to get a second opinion, something wasn’t right, but Eric kept being told by his Dr it was fine.
Eric ended up hitting the ground, passing out, while getting tools for work at home hardware in Nelson.
Thank God he wasn’t driving at the time! This brought Eric to emerg (at the insistence of Clancy haha) and it turned out after a CT scan that Erics leg was still fully broken! He had broken right through the metal hardware and had been working and walking on a broken leg, for 4 months. Tough Irish SOB indeed.
It turns out the Surgeon did not do a proper job, too much space was left, and bone grafting should have been done. Also, the Surgeon should not have given him to go ahead to work.
Eric had to get a second operation to clean out the metal and is now on iV antibiotics for 1.5 months. (to clear up infection from metal breaking etc) He then will have a third operation in December, where they will take bone from his hip and finally fix the break correctly.
This will bring Eric to another 6 months off work (plus the previous 6), which is obviously quite stressful on him. Clancy is hustling with her art studio business in town (childrens art classes, art bday parties, paint nights and hypnotherapy/art therapy offered-sign up at clancymoonbeam.com) There is no workers comp as he was not working when the injury first happened, and the small ei he receives is only a fraction of his income, and only lasts a couple of months. Eric can use some breathing room to help get bills paid and have some space to heal.
Eric, his step children, Lily and Leaf, and loving fiancé,Clancy, thank you for any support you can offer ❤️ This is going to be a long road to recovery and any little bit helps. Anyone who knows Eric, knows he helps any friend, at any time. Your gestures of support are immensely appreciated, times a million.
I will post updates along the way!
