I initially created this GoFundMe to help my son with his rehabilitation. I stopped trying when he said he didn't want any more treatment because it became completely impossible. Then the situation changed, and now he's in palliative care. He's currently in critical condition. I've been by his side in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, for two months now, accompanying him in his final stage. It's very hard to see my son's life slipping away. He's on sedation 24 hours a day to avoid suffering. I'm no longer working because my son requires all my time. Now the situation has changed, and further rehabilitation is no longer possible, but final expenses are coming. I have family support, but we still need help with the expenses that are coming soon. Please help me give my son what he needs in the final stretch of his life.

My name is Maria Aguirre, mother of Erick Vidal Aguirre, who until March 5, 2023, led a normal life. That day, he suffered an ischemic-hemorrhagic stroke in the brain stem with no option for surgery due to thin arteries in the brain, a problem that we did not know existed. Since he had been treated for high blood pressure and the causes were not found, previously ruling out a possible tumor in the adrenal glands, due to the stroke, Erick was left in a coma and then in a vegetative state, with no hope of recovery since the prognosis was very dark. They asked us to prepare for the worst; he could die at any moment, and it might be necessary to disconnect him. If he survived, there would be no consciousness due to the extensive damage caused by the bleeding in his brain. He was sent home without hope, although he managed to be disconnected from the respirator, and a tracheostomy and an oxygen concentrator were put on him, a Foley catheter, and a gastrostomy to feed him. Due to medical emergencies, he was readmitted to the hospital, and surprisingly, he came out of the vegetative state totally conscious and remains in a state of confinement.
Due to the high costs of his care, I found myself in need of returning to Houston to be able to continue working and continue supporting my son since he is in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He can travel to the United States, but I do not have family in this country who can support me in his care. I currently work at River Oaks Country Club as a bartender, but my salary is not enough to pay for the therapy we are looking for that would help Erick reconnect his brain and have a possible improvement.
He does not speak, he does not move, but he retains his mental capacities 100%. We did not give up, and we started therapy very early. Today, he stands with help for 45 minutes, he begins to move his limbs, he eats orally porridge like a baby because he learned to eat again, and he begins to vocalize to speak again. We looked for the resources to be able to pay for a therapy that is very expensive, that is why we resorted to this means because Erick comes from a very long road and continues fighting.
That's why I'm using this method to continue helping him in his recovery since we don't have the financial means to continue. It's a miracle that he's still with us, and he deserves another chance to recover a little of what he lost. A young man without vices, hard-working, extremely intelligent, who spoke Spanish and English, and studied German, who remembers absolutely everything. Please support Erick in this fight to get his life back again... thank you very much.
