A Tremont native (THS Class of 1996) and former Marine (Camp Pendleton), Eric Jones is a hard-working, humble man with a servant’s heart who gives back daily to his community by volunteering part-time at a local ministry, The Share Closet, in Tremont, Illinois.
Eric is a vital worker at the ministry. He helps unload, sort, and price donations in the receiving department of the store. Volunteering is not a new thing to Eric. Before moving back to Tremont he volunteered with the Salvation Army in Champaign, Illinois for two years. A quiet, hard-working volunteer, Eric is a positive and encouraging person who brings a smile to the face of everyone he works with and serves in the community. He also actively participates and worships at Tremont Baptist Church.
While Eric is diligently working and serving his community with a smile and positive attitude, you would never know by looking at him that he is in constant, excruciating pain. Eric doesn’t talk about his health issues. Eric suffers from a genetic disorder that causes blood clots, vascular, and lymphedema problems. Over time, the valves in his lower extremities have stopped functioning correctly, causing significant swelling, excruciating pain, and open ulcerations in both legs. Every medical option has been tried to help heal Eric’s legs. After more than four years with no healing, the doctors recommended amputation of both legs. Eric had his first leg removed on October 15th, 2021. He has been trying to manage daily life in a wheelchair since his amputation. Being restricted to a wheelchair makes it difficult to maneuver around his home, work, and church. Prosthetics are expensive, but they would allow Eric easier accessibility at home, work and church. The doctors recently told Eric his body is ready for his first prosthetic. The second leg removal will be scheduled when his body is ready and he is stable on his first prosthetic.
Those of us who have worked directly with Eric have seen his dedication to the community and his determination to press on through tremendous pain. Eric wants to help other people in his community who utilize the Share Closet for various needs. He is a wonderful example of a hard work ethic and he has blessed us. His positive, humble attitude and determination have inspired us. Eric needs our help. We would like to give back to Eric and help him walk again. This GoFundMe has been set up to help Eric with expenses to be fitted for prosthetics and related medical expenses. Donations of any amount are so helpful and greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a blessed day!
