On November 2nd, 2025, my good friend Eric Basham’s life was turned upside down. What began as a generous act of kindness—offering temporary shelter to someone in need—ended in heartbreak when that guest set fire to Eric’s living room couch after being asked to leave. The fire quickly spread, damaging surrounding items and leaving Eric’s home in disarray.

Eric was working when he smelled smoke. He rushed out to find his guest yelling, throwing things, and running around shirtless. Thanks to the swift response of the Shoreline Fire Department, the blaze was extinguished before it could consume the entire home. Thankfully, no one was injured. But the emotional and financial toll is immense.

Eric didn’t deserve this. He opened his home out of compassion, and now he’s facing the aftermath of destruction—damaged furniture, smoke and water-damaged rooms, and the daunting task of rebuilding. Insurance may not cover all the losses, and Eric needs our help to get back on his feet.

This GoFundMe will help Eric:

Every dollar makes a difference. Let’s rally around Eric and show him that his kindness wasn’t in vain. He deserves a safe, peaceful home—and a community that stands by him when things go wrong.

Please donate if you can, and share this campaign with others. Together, we can help Eric rebuild not just his home, but his hope.

Thanks,

Jessica and Eric
